TURIN AND THE LAKES IN PIEDMONT

 

This itinerary guides the visitor to discover the fascinating environment of the lakes and the imposant mountains all around. The nicest place in the Verbano Cusio and Ossola Province is the charming Lago Maggiore, renowned in the world and well frequented into the past by famous writers as Hemingway, Flaubert, Dickens. CUBE proposes to the guests a stay that interchanges the relaxing atmosphere of the lakes with the discovery of the landscape's beauties in the valleys and in mountains of this area. The tour will allow visiting the villages of Stresa and its old hotels, Verbania and its luxurious mansions and the botanical gardens, and will allow to organize unforgettable private boat rides to discover the magnificent Borromean Islands. The botanical gardens of Pallanza, inside Villa Taranto, with tree avenues, terraces and flower-beds with the countless botanical species will charm the visitor particularly at the end of March during the florescence of the extraordinary collection of camellias and rhododendrons. The picturesque Isola dei Pescatori with its narrow alleys and the typical small restaurants, the Isola Bella and Isola Madre with their noble abodes rich in works of arts will be the main attraction, but not only, of the lake. Likewise interesting are the Castles of Cannero builded on two small fortified island during the Middle Ages.

The gastronomy delights are the connection point between the lakes and the mountains all around places rich in history and traditions. The guests will appreciate and taste different dishes in old inns or in renowned starred Michelin's restaurants with recipes based on fresh water fishes like perch or arctic char around lakes and exquisite cheeses like Bettelmat and salami and game in mountains cooked following old recipes or revisited in modern shape.    

Driving for few kilometers from this area the visitors will discover the mountain scenery of Val d'Ossola and its secondary valleys as Val Formazza and its beauties, several lakes, the waterfall of Toce, more than 140 m high, Valle Antigorio, Valle Vigezzo with its well-known mountain railway "Vigezzina" entry point of Parco Nazionale della Val Grande (the largest wilderness area in Europe) and Valle Anzasca that ends under the Monte Rosa scenery at 4633 m and with its villages of Walser culture.    

Furthermore it will be possible visit the Sacri Monti of Domodossola, Ghiffa and Orta, that are places of faith and also interesting as nature-related sites.  The trekking lovers as well as mountain bikers, climbers, and kayakers will be accompanied, when necessary, by professional guides and instructors to play in safety different sports and follow itineraries in the middle of a uncontaminated nature and magnificent landscapes off the beaten tracks.
