MILAN AND LAKE MAGGIORE

 

The tour offers the opportunity to enjoy the charm of Lake Maggiore and its islands with their quiet and fascinating atmosphere visiting them by boat: Isola Madre, the largest of the three; Isola dei Pescatori (Fishermen Island), with its winding streets, its small shops and its famous restaurants serving typical dishes of fish; Isola Bella, which is home to a stylish residence of the Borromeo family with its priceless works of art. You will admire the beautiful English style park of Villa Taranto created by a Scottish nobleman at the beginning of the last century, where you will find statues, fountains, ponds, terraces and waterfalls. Villa Taranto is one of the most important botanical gardens in the world where hundreds of species of flowers and plants from all around the world are like at home. A full day excursion is planned to the visit of Lake Orta, a lovely alpine lake located a few kilometers west of Lake Maggiore. Within Lake Orta is the island of San Giulio, also known as the island of silence and for its stories and ancient legends, reached by boat from Orta San Giulio, the main coastal resort of the lake.Another full day excursion will be dedicated to the special little journey by train "Vigezzina-Centovalli" from Domodossola to Locarno, a small city on the Swiss shore of Lake Maggiore. During the journey of 52 kilometers you can admire chestnut woods, large valleys, snow-capped peaks and glaciers, waterfalls and quiet villages. This itinerary is one of the most picturesque routes in the Alps, can be made round the year.The last day will be entirely at disposal for rest, spa and relax.
